Dr Philip Moody is Principal Soil Scientist with Environment and Resource Sciences, Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management, and leads the Soil Processes research group. Phil has had a long association with ASPAC, both as a state representative and also sponsoring the participation of several south-east Asian laboratories in the ASPAC proficiency program through funding provided by ACIAR. Phil has made significant contributions to soil testing in Australia through the development of the single point P buffer index (PBI), demonstrating the effect of PBI on interpretation of the Colwell soil P test and recently developing a P environmental risk index based on PBI and Colwell-P. He was senior author of the ‘Phosphorus’ chapter in the ASPAC book: ‘Soil Analysis: an Interpretation Manual’. He is enthusiastically committed to promoting quality-assured soil analysis as a key tool for achieving both productivity and environmental outcomes.
